What is it?

Shear Wave Flaw Detection incorporates elements of ultrasonic testing (or angle-beam testing) to identify subsurface anomalies. Shear Wave Flaw Detection is utilized for the inspection of new construction welds, in-service welds, structural welds and more. One of the many aspects of Shear Wave Flaw Detection is that it incorporates the use of ultrasonic energy; the energy is then reflected back to a transducer, for example, from indications within a material and/or weld. The indication is then displayed as an A-scan, where the operator can review the most relevant information to assess the integrity of the asset.

Advantages of Shear Wave Flaw Detection

Customers can gain many advantages through the use of Shear Wave Flaw Detection. This advanced technique is mobile, portable, provides real-time results, and is accurate in defect sizing and location flaw characterization. There is no disruption of production with no safety concerns. Lastly, this advanced technique only requires access to one side of the component, with minimal preparation required.
